Lo
Manthang is the only one living walled city of Nepal guarded
by armed policemen to defend the town from the enemies where
the 22nd king of Mustang, Jhigmi Palber Bista is ruling in
the present. We arrange the special visit with the king. There
are many chortens, Mani walls and monasteries. About 4000
Lobas people are in upper Mustang, most of them temporarily
migrate to lower land Pokhara and Kathmandu during the winter
time but very few people stay there to take care of their
livestock and houses. Tichi is the popular festival of Lo
Manthang that usually occurs in May and the festival is celebrated
for over three days on the occasion of killing damon's son
by Dorje Sonnu.
His Majesty the Government of Nepal issues
the limited number of permits with special fee for the trekkers
to protect the fragile ecosystem of Mustang. There must
be at least 2 persons in a group. The trail is very gentle
with scenic view. Maximum highest point of the hiking trail
is only 3950m so any healthy person can easily make it but
requires the sunglasses. There are seasonal trails along
the river valley that may vary the standard itinerary plus
minus one or two days.
