Overview

This spectacularly photogenic trek on the southern side of the Himalayas is with wonderful 360 degree close views of Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu Himalaya ranges. The trail passes through the cultivated fields, Gurung villages, temperate rhododendron forests and lush green Modi Khola valley. The early morning view of the Annapurna range from atop Poon Hill is unparalleled by any places accessible by roads and other places. We have two options to get Pokhara by road and air and both options are fantastic. If we fly to Pokhara, you’ll see wonderful greater Himalaya panorama to the north and beautiful hills, river valleys, settlements & farmlands to the southern side. Similarly, you’ll see people working along roadside and farmlands, beautiful village settlements, meandering river valleys in the fantastic driving tour which gives real great experience of Nepali way of living and more coverage of beautiful landscapes.

This is one of the most exciting all season treks in entire Nepal to be started in beautiful Pokhara valley and ended at Nayapool by the road (Pokhara - Mustang road) in Modi Khola valley. Each and every village of this trek is just a day far from Pokhara with frequent mobile network service in almost each village, very good standard tea houses for accommodation, food as per the well maintained menu with lots of choices, classic Gurung and Magar tribal culture along trekking route, typical lifestyle, beautiful farmlands and endless nature scenery. The entire trekking trail follows the base of Machhapuchhre Himal and Annapurna with magnificent nonstop scenery. Along with sightseeing in Pokhara valley, this trek gives you great experience of hiking, exotic nature, tribal culture and typical lifestyle. You will have to ascend two mountain ridges with 2100m (Bhickok Deurali- the hill saddle in the ridgeline is called Deurali) and 3210m (360 degree Himalaya view point – Poonhil just above Ghodepani Magar village) and need to descend to Modi Khola valley (about 1200m between Landruk and Ghandruk and 1070 at Birethanti Nayapool by the Pokhara Mustang road). Nowadays, there is road access most of the places but we still have separate trail for trekking. If you want drive by skipping some part of the trip is also possible.

Package Itineary

(Average hike 4 - 6 hours a day)

 

Day 01: Arrive Pokhara (820m), hotel

Arrive Pokhara, transfer to hotel, if time permits, visit David Falls and World Peace Pagoda in the afternoon. Dinner & overnight.

 

Day 02: Trek to Dhampus (1770m)

After breakfast, visit Bindhyabasini temple premises on the way, drive to Phedi (about half hour drive through Hemja village and beautiful farmlands). Then we ascend a small woody hill up to Dhampus which takes about 2.5 hours to the hotel. Nowadays there is dirt road to Dhampus. If the guests prefer adventure drive along dirt road then weill drive to Dhampus but generally trek starts from Phedi. Great view of beautiful Pokhara valley and Annapurna range is clearly seen from Dhampus. Arrive Dhampus, check in teahouse, have lunch then explore the village, Gurung tribal culture and their lifestyle. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day03:  Hike to Pothana (1890m) - Bhickok Deurali (2100m) -(1565m)

Please pack up everything before breakfast, because porters prepare their load during your breakfast time. After having breakfast, hike up to Deurali along stone paved trail which is mainly uphill passes through an evergreen forest and the village of Pothana. If you follow the ridge via Australian camp then you will see better view of Pokhara valley, Phewa Lake and the serene Himalaya ranges and takes little long time. All along the trail, you will have very exciting endless view of majestic Annapurna range and beautiful farmlands, Seti River channel, settlements & Phewa Lake in Pokhara valley. Hike down to Tolka (1700m) through beautiful forest and Bhedi Kharka (Bhedi is sheep and kharka is hut this means earlier Bhedi Kharka was sheep shelter during summer). It is gentle pleasant walk from Tolka to Landruk with magnificent view of the Annapurna range, Banthanti Poonhill ridge, Modi Khola valley and beautiful village settlements. Depending on time, we may have lunch on the way. After checking in teahouse explore beautiful Landruk Gurung tribal village located in the lap of Machhapuchhre Himal .

 

Day 04: Landruk- Ghandruk (1950m)

Ghandruk village is in the front just opposite side of Modi Khola valley that looks very close but it takes time to drop down to Modi Khola and ascend to Ghandruk village. Hike down to beautiful Modi Khola originated from Annapurna and Machhapuchhre Base Camps. There is the trekking trail to Annapurna Machhapuchhre Base Camps along narrow Modi Khola valley. We just cross the bridge over Modi Khola then ascend about 600m through beautiful farmland. With 2-3 hour uphill walk, we arrive the most beautiful Ghandruk Gurung tribal village. Ghandruk is one of the most scenic, most beautiful and biggest Gurung villages in the warm lap of Annapurna range with spectacular view of Annapurna range, majestic view of Fishtail mountain & wonderful landscape & Modi Khola valley. There are mud and stone houses with slate and zinc sheet roofs and some traditional clay dung plastered round shape houses with silage roofs. Explore and study great culture and lifestyle of Gurung people. Observe Gurung culture show in the evening. There are very good hotels where you find good accommodation with lots of choice in food varieties.

 

Day 05: Hike to Tadapani (2590m)

After having breakfast, hike all the way up to Tadapani with over 600m walk. Here, distance is also short but takes time to walk in the uphill. Everlasting exciting views of the Machhapuchhre (Fishtail 6993m), Hiuchuli and Annapurna south, you can easily make it and won’t feel any tiredness hiking in the uphill through beautiful meadows and forest. Tadapani is a small but great spot for amazing scenery of Machhapuchhre Himal, Annapurna South and beautiful landscapes & village settlements in Modi Khola valley. Stay in a teahouse.

 

Day 06: Hike to Ghodepani (2750m)

Hike to Deurali (2987m) through beautiful Banthanti tea house spot, rock & cascade valleys and forest of rhododendron, oak bamboo, and wild berry & nuts and with stunning window view of the Himalayas. Walk along the ridge down to Ghodepani Magar tribal village.  We will have good experience of wildlife today. You may spot snow leopard, Himalayan black beer, wolves, foxes, red and white monkeys along with numerous species of birds. From Deurali to Ghodepani along ridgeline trail, you’ll see wonderful view of the Dhalagiri range and Kaligandaki River valley to the west and Annapurna range and Modi Khola valley to the north east. Explore Magar tribal village in Annapurna region. Ghodepani is a Magar tribal village (not traditional village with typical culture and lifestyle like in Lugum valley west Nepal) located in the hill saddle between Kaligandaki and Modi Khola just in the lap of Annapurna South. This is really beautiful spot closely surrounded by rhododendron forest and widely surrounded by Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalaya ranges. Most of the houses are made up of rock, mud and cement with slate and zinc sheet roofs. Mostly the old women are in traditional costumes. Stay in a teahouses in the ridgeline from where you see stunning nature scenery.

 

Day 07: Poonhill (3210m), hike to Tirkhedhunga (1540m)

Get up early at around 5:00am, just have tea or coffee, then hike up to Poonhill (beautiful mound in the rhododendron forest). It is better to arrive before sunrise for the best 360 degree view of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges with numerous peaks like Dhaulagiri (8167m), Tukuche Peak (6920m), Nilgiri (6940m.), Varaha Shikhar (7847m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7937m.), Annapurna III (7855m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Machhapuchhre (6993m.), Lamjung Himal (6931m.) etc. During April May, this hill is really colorful with blooming rhododendrons. After 1½ hours excursion, we hike back to hotel, pack up your belongings and have breakfast. Hike down to Tirkhedhunga through dense rhododendron forest and Nayathanti, Banthanti and Ulleri Magar tribal villages. It is about 4-5 hour walk from Ghodepani. Walking a long stone staircase in hill slope is very exciting with amazing scenery of -Annapurna range, beautiful landscapes, river valleys, farmland and Magar tribal people & their lifestyle.

 

Day 08: Tirkhedhunga-Nayapool (1070m) - Sarankot (1600m), hotel

After having breakfast, hike down to Nayapul along stone staircase. Trek ends by the road in Nayapool with about 2 hour walk from Tirkhedhunga. Drive to Sarankot in Pokhara valley through beautiful villages and towns, and farmlands in the hill slopes. Check in hotel, have lunch then explore the village of wonderful scenery of Phewa Lake, beautiful Pokhara valley, mountain sequence and magical Himalaya panorama in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 09: Sarankot - Pokhara, sightseeing in Pokhara

Observe wonderful sunrise view and the close view of Annapurna early in the morning, have breakfast then drive to Pokhara. It is really a fantastic pleasant drive with exciting view of Phewa Lake, Pokhara valley and the Annapurna range. Arrive Pokhara, check in hotel, have lunch, then visit Tal Barahi Temple island in the middle of the Phewa Lake - the second largest lake of Nepal. Barahi Temple in the island with two storied pagoda is dedicated to Ajima Goddess. Great reflection of Mt. Machhapuchhare & Annapurna is seen in its tranquil surface. We visit the island and temple by boating. Dinner and overnight.  

 

Day 10: Fly back home

After breakfast, program over, transfer to airport, fly back home.

Entire trip cost per person (USD):  $999 (1pax complimentary in every 11 paid guests group)

 

Trip cost includes:
All accommodation (twin sharing basis) & food; three meals a day -breakfast, lunch and dinner (except bar bill), insured crew (guide, porters, donkeys), all essential permits, all domestic transportation as per the itinerary, service charge and government taxes.

Trip cost does not include:
Personal expenses (like laundry, communication, alcohol, cold drinks and bottled water during the trek), gratuity to serving crew, emergency evacuation, international airfare, visa, your travel insurance and any kind of gifts and donation.

Payment system

  • 80% of total trip budget must be paid in advance (the amount should be appeared to our account just two weeks before the trips) for domestic transportation, permits, hotel bookings reconfirmation and essential preparations.
  • Balance can be paid before or during/after the trip.

Refund system
In case of trip cancellation in the last 10 days of group arrival, 50% of the deposited amount will be deducted. If the trip cancels 10 days before the group arrival, we settle the full amount in next trip.
