Trip information: Situated in the lap of Dhaulagiri, Churen, Putha and Sisne Himal, Rukum is the unique land of 52 hills, 53 lakes and beautiful traditional settlements, famous for Magar tribal culture, traditional big villages, typical lifestyle, beautiful landscape and Yarsagomba (rare and the most precious Himalaya medicinal mushroom and caterpillar). The Lugum Takasera valley is inhabited by different Magar clans like Pun Magar, Gharti Magar, Roka and Budha Magar who have their own common particular Kham language, customs and tradition. Originally they are the sheep herders but most of them have changed their profession into British army, government jobs and agriculture.

Jhankri Mela performed by shamans, is one of most interesting, famous and unique festivals of Lugumyali Magars. Bhume mela is another big festival of Kham speaking Magars in the valley. They also celebrate Dashain, Tihar and other Hindu festivals. As per their caste root, they worship their native gods like Bhimsen, Siddha and Baraha as well as they worship their ancestors that is called Pitar Pooja. ‘Nachane’ and ‘Jholyani’ are the famous dance in the community.

Magical Himalaya panorama, wonderful landscape, large grassland, wildlife and classic Hindu culture in Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve is very interesting place to visit. This is the home to snow leopard, wolf, musk deer, Himalayan thar, blue sheep, Himalayan monal, Himalayan griffin vulture, raven etc. This is the only hunting reserve of Nepal where is an opportunity of hunting particular animals with special permission.  

This is a wonderful tour to experience the blend of rich mix Nepali ethnic culture, beautiful landscape and affluence flora and fauna. Heart alluring waterfalls, hot springs, miraculous views of the Dhaulagiri, Churen and Annapurna Himalayan range, beautiful landscape and traditional villages, Magar, Tharu and Newari mix culture and lifestyle and lush green forests, farmlands and people working in fields are the key attraction of the tour. This area trip programs are widely know as guerilla trips due to many warriors of this area involved in Maoist militia during conflict for over a decade.

 

Package Itineary

Day 01: Arrive Lumbini (190m), hotel

Arrive Bhairahawa, after customs formality, meet the local assistant, drive to Lumbini, check in hotel, if time permits, visit World Peace Pagoda in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 02: Lumbini - 6th century BC ruined monuments in Tilaurakot - Dhungedadhi (865m), 120km, 5 hour, camp

After having breakfast, drive to Tilaurakot, explore 6th century BC ruined monuments of Shakya dynasty where Lord Budhha spent his first 29 years as a prince. Observe interesting ruined mud brick foundations and walls as well as family deity where you see dozens of elephants statues. You can visit culture history museum, Ram Temple, monkey god Hanuman statue nearby then drive to Bhalubang through farmlands, forests, settlements, Siwalik hills and intermountain valleys. Explore lifestyle of Tharu tribes then drive to Dhungegadhi along beautiful Rapti River valley. Dinner and overnight at camp. Our professional kitchen staff serve continental and Nepali fresh organic food prepared in our mobile kitchen.

 

Day 03: Dhungegadhi - Sworgadwari (1924m), 106km, 5 hour, explore shrines and rituals, camp

Have breakfast, drive to Sworgadwari through beautiful hills and hillocks, terraced farmlands, forests, meandering Madi valley, traditional villages and towns. You see typical lifestyle of locals working along the road side, farm fields, forests and in the villages. Arrive Sworgadwari ridge, have lunch, hike up to the shrines atop the hill, explore interesting rituals, prayers, holy bells, cow farms, cave in the afternoon. Return to the camp. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 04: Sworgadwari - Libang Khola (970m), 70km, 3 hour, landscape and lifestyle, camp

Breakfast, drive to Liwang. It is a scenic drive along Lungri Khola valley and through hills and settlements. You see beautiful intermountain river valleys, mountain sequences, traditional villages and typical lifestyle of mix cultured people. Explore Liwang- the district headquarters of Rolpa. Now we are in the territory of Magar tribes. Camp by the Liwang Khola after Liwang. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 05: Liwang - Thabang (1970m), 74km, 5 hour, traditional villages and typical lifestyle, camp

After breakfast, drive to Thabang is a scenic adventure drive through river valleys, hills, settlements, forests and farmlands where you see beautiful traditional villages and interesting typical lifestyle of Magar tribes, and wonderful view of Dhaulagiri and Sisne Himal ranges. Holy mountain Jaljala is also seen very closely. After lunch, explore the traditional beautiful village of Thabang, Magar tribal culture, typical lifestyle and visit Magar tribal museum. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 06: Thabang - Mahat (1926m), 30km, 2 hour, explore Magar tribal culture, camp

Have breakfast, you can visit some traditional villages like Yaibang and Labang on the way to Mahat. You see towering view of Sisne Himal, beautiful river valley, interesting big villages of traditional houses with corn storages in the yard, animal husbandry, people working in the farmlands, villages and along the road. Have lunch then explore typical culture. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 07: Mahat - Taksera (2200m), 72km, 4 hour, traditional villages, landscape, camp

Breakfast, drive to Kakri village along the Mid Hill Highway, explore the traditional village then drive to Taksera valley in the lap of Sisne Himal and Dhaulagiri. There are beautiful traditional big villages of Magar tribes in the isolated hidden valley. arrive the village, have lunch then explore the classic tribal culture in the village. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 08: Explore interesting Magar tribal culture, camp

The day is dedicated to explore interesting classic culture and typical lifestyle of Magar tribes in Taksera and surrounding villages in Uttar Ganga River valley. There will be some interesting tribal culture programs including very interesting shamanists performance in the afternoon to serve the guests. Interested ones can join them in the culture program. In the village tour, you see their daily lifestyle like working at home and farmlands, cooking food, fermenting local beer ‘jaand’ and producing liquor in traditional distillery, grinding and husking grains, manual weaving wool and hemp blankets and sweaters, milking cow, herding sheep, goat and other animals etc.

 

Day 09: Taksera - Dhorpatan (2860m), 120km, 6 hour, classic culture and landscape, camp

Have breakfast, drive back to Kakri village, drive to Lukum village, explore their traditional village and typical culture then continue drive to Burtibang along Mid Hill Highway, have lunch then drive up to Dhorpatan. You see beautiful meadows, forested hills, large grasslands, magical view of Dogari, Putha, Churen and Dhaulagiri Himalaya ranges, beautiful settlements and typical lifestyle in Dhorpatan. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 10: Explore interesting nature and culture, camp

The day is dedicated to explore classic Hindu and Buddhist culture, pristine beautiful nature and rare Himalayan flora and fauna in the Nepal’s only one hunting reserve Dhorpatan. After having breakfast, hike to Bobang or towards Fagune or Dhorpatan Deurali to observe magical view of the Dhaulagiri and Dogari Himal ranges, beautiful intermountain valleys, alpine meadows, wildlife like blue sheep, Himalayan thar, musk deer, black bear, snow leopard Himalan monal, snow partridge, Himalayan griffin vulture, raven, kite etc. Return to the camp. Have lunch then visit temples and pre-Buddhist Bonpo monastery, observe beautiful traditional villages, horses, cow and goats grazing in the grasslands, people working in farmlands and in villages, Nepali way of cooking etc. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 11: Dhorpatan - Resunga (1540m), 100km, 6 hours, landscape and lifestyle, camp

After breakfast, drive to Tamghas- the headquarters of Gulmi district through forested mountains, Burtibang valley, hills, terraced farmlands, traditional villages and towns. You see beautiful landscape, classic culture and typical lifestyle along the road side. Lunch on the way. Explore beautiful mountain Tamghas and its lifestyle then visit Resunga shrines equally important in aspect of religious and culture history. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 12: Resunga - Batase Danda (1420m), 105km, 6 hour, landscape and classic culture, camp

After breakfast, drive to Ridi, visit the most important Hindu shrines - several temples around Rishikesh Temple by the confluence of holy river Kaligandaki and Ridi Khola. This place is also widely known as Ruru Kshetra which is very important Hindu shrine. Drive to Batase Danda, have lunch then drive to Rani Mahal- the Taj Mahal of Nepal, built by general Khadga Shmaser Rana in 1893 to present his wife, a token of love. It is located in the bank of holy Kaligandaki River which is about an hour drive from our camp in Tansen. Return to the camp, you see beautiful view of sunset and golden view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri from the camp if the weather permits. Dinner and overnight.

 

Day 13: Batase - Tansen - Lumbini (190m), 90km, 3 hour, shrines, Dhaka cotton and brass pottery, hotel

After breakfast, visit Tansen- a beautiful hill town where you see typical Newari tribal culture, age old artistic temples, traditional houses and water fountains, traditional Nepali Dhaka cotton factory and its cotton clothes, and handmade brass pottery. You can taste Nepal organic coffee here in the town. Drive to Lumbini through beautiful hills, intermountain valleys, Tinau Khola, traditional villages and towns. You can see traditional Nepali wedding ceremonies at Siddhababa Temple in Tinau Khola and in Butwal or other towns along the road. Depending on time you can have lunch in Tansen or Butwal. Drive to Lumbini, check in hotel, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 14: Explore Lord Buddha’s birthplace Lumbini, 6th century BC to present day monuments, hotel

The day is dedicated to explore Lord Buddha’s birthplace Lumbini. After breakfast, drive to the entrance of the Lumbini holy monuments. Walk to the gate of the Maya Devi temple complex, take off shoes/slippers then enter the site. There are dozens of interesting monuments around the white temple of Maya Devi. Enter the temple silently and observe the exact birthplace of Lord Buddha. Then observe pilgrims and 6th to 2nd century BC interesting monuments around the temple. After visiting Mustang monastery then exit the main temple complex.

Explore the monastery site where are dozens of artistic colorful monasteries built up by many Buddhists community around the world. Visit some sample monasteries like Gautami nunnery, Myanmar Golden Temple, Thai, Cambodian, Chinese and German monasteries. You can have light pack lunch there or late fresh in hotel. Return to hotel. Farewell dinner party, overnight.

 

Day 15: Program over, fly back home.

After breakfast, open for next program or transfer to the airport. Fly back home.

Entire trip cost per person (USD):    $2,999   //  1pax complimentary in every 10 paid guests in group.

Trip cost includes: All accommodation (twin sharing basis) & food; three meals a day -breakfast, lunch and dinner (except bar bill), insured crew (guide, assistants, drivers and necessary kitchen crew), all essential permits, all domestic transportation as per the itinerary, service charge and government taxes.

Trip cost does not include: International airfare, Nepal visa, your travel insurance, personal expenses (like laundry, communication, alcohol, cold drinks), tips to serving crew, emergency evacuation, extra cost due to natural and political causes such as landslides, unrest, strikes etc, expenses of extra hotel & other services abandoning the trip before/after scheduled, and cost not mentioned in includes section.

 

Payment system

  • 80% of total trip budget must be paid in advance (the amount should be appeared to our account just two weeks before the trips) for domestic transportation, permits, hotel bookings reconfirmation and essential preparations.
  • Balance can be paid before or during/after the trip.

Refund system
In case of trip cancellation in the last 10 days of group arrival, 50% of the deposited amount will be deducted. If the trip cancels 10 days before the group arrival, we settle the full amount in next trip.
