Overview

The highest mountain in northern flank of Far West Nepal overlooking the incredible views of Byas Bhanjhang, river valleys, beautiful village settlements, and the border land of India and China, Api Himal (7132 m) is pristine ceiling of the region that is rewarding perpetual white water. One of the most isolated, remote and rarely explored by the foreigners, Api Himal trek can be the unique present for the trekkers to experience the serene glacial valleys, hanging icefalls, tranquil lakes, wonderful landscape, thundering waterfalls, rivers and rivulets, yak and sheep caravan, pasturelands, true lifestyle of particular mountain ethno tribe Buddhist cultured Byasi and Indo-Aryan origin Hindu cultured hierarchical system people including Sauka tribe etc. 

Majestic panoramic view of couple sky soaring peaks like Nandadevi, Rajramba, Api Himal and Kappa Chuli Peak caresses the hearts. Similarly, the classical culture, traditional lifestyle, typical villages, sheep/goat herding in the pasturelands and carrying loads, women weaving sheep wool blankets and hemp/nettle clothes, people collecting precious medicinal plants and its roots for earnings look so interesting and remarkable.

 

Package Itineary

(Average daily walk 5-7 hours)

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: Fly to Dhangadhi, lunch in Attaria, drive to Dadeldhura (1730m), dinner & overnight in camp.

Day 03: Drive to Makarigad (1460m), camp 

Day 04: Hike to Khandeshwari (2280m), explore the traditional village and typical culture, camp.

Day 05: Hike to Chhetti (2890m) camp. 

Day 06: Explore traditional village and classic culture, enjoy magical Himalaya panorama, camp.

Day 07: Hike back to Khandeshwari (2280m), camp.

Day 08: Hike to Ghusa (2230m); explore the classical culture of mountain people, camp.

Day 09: Ghusa to Khayekot (2030m), camp.

Day 10: Trek to Rokab Gad confluence 2970m, camp.

Day 11: Trek to Pilkanda Khola (3890m), camp

Day 12: Explore ultimate destination Api Base Camp, glacial lake(4100m), glacial valleys, icefalls, camp.

Day 13: Trek back to Khayekot, camp.

Day 14: Trek back to Makarigad, camp.

Day 15: Drive back to Khodpe, camp.

Day 16: Drive back to Dhangadhi, hotel.

Day 17: Explore Dangaura Tharu tribal culture, hotel.

Day 18: Explore Rana Tharu tribal culture in the morning, fly to Kathmandu, hotel

Day 19: Sightseeing in Kathmandu, relax and shopping, hotel.

Day 20: Program over, fly back home. 

 

Detailed itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu (1340m), hotel

Arrive kathmandu, transfer to hotel, depending on time, sightseeing in Kathmandu. Dinner and overnight.

Day 02: Fly to Dhangadhi (190m), drive to Dadeldhura (1710m), 145km, approx. 5 hour, camp/tent.

After having breakfast, transfer to airport, an hour flight to terai town Dhangadhi, have lunch in Attaria, drive to Sahukharka forested mountain through the biggest forest Tele Lekh in Far West Nepal, where we can have pure fresh rice pudding. We can also observe wonderful Saipal-Surma-Shankhamala-Kanjirowa Himalaya panorama, beautiful mountain range and Seti River valley from there. Drive to Dadeldhura, camp at hostel ground by the old airport. Depending on time, we visit historical place Amargadhi and Ugratara temple. From today, our kitchen team serve continental and organic Nepali fresh food for the entire field trip in mountain area. Dinner and overnight in camp.  

Day 03: Dadeldhura - Gokule (680m)-Makarigad (1460m), 170km, approx. 8 hour drive, camp

After having breakfast, drive to Gokule through lesser Himalayan valleys, terraced farmlands, forests and traditional villages and towns. We will observe typical lifestyle of mountain people along the road side. Have pack lunch then follow Chameliya River valley all the way to Makari Gad. Meet the local crew and donkeys for carrying load during the trek, Dinner and overnight. 

Day 04: Hike to Khandeshwari (2280m), explore the traditional village, 4-5 hour hike, camp.

After having breakfast, crossing the Makari Gad, hike up to the ridge, visit tettiskoti deuta Hindu shrine then hike continue to Khandeshwari. Have lunch in camp. You see beautiful view of wonderful Himalayan peaks; Api Nampa Himal, Jethi Bahurani and Bobaye as well as Chameliya and Makarigad valleys and villages. Explore classic culture and typical lifestyle of Sauka tribe in the village. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 05: Hike to Chhetti (2890m), 6-7 hour hike, explore classic culture, camp. 

Have breakfast, hike through several traditional beautiful villages, terraced farmlands, forests along Chhetiganga valley. Have lunch on the way. Arrive the last village of the valley Chhetti surrounded by Surna Himal, Jethi Bahurani and Bobaye Himalaya range. Explore classic culture and lifestyle there. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 06: Explore traditional village and classic culture, enjoy magical Himalaya panorama, camp.

After having breakfast, hike up to view point that provides magical Himalaya panorama and Chhetti ganga valley. Have lunch then explore the traditional village, classic culture and typical lifestyle of the mountain people. Lush green valley, alpine meadows, majestic Himalaya panorama, rare flora and fauna, wonderful landscape, interesting traditional village and typical lifestyle of the people are the attraction there. Dinner and overnight.

Day 07: Hike back to Khandeshwari, 6 hour, camp

Have breakfast, hike back to Khandeshwari on the same way along Chhetti Ganga valley. Hiking through beautiful traditional villages, farmlands, forests and rivulets is really interesting experience. You can have late lunch at the camp or on the way. Free afternoon to explore unique nature and classic culture. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 08: Hike to Ghusa (2230m); explore the classical culture of mountain people, camp.

After having breakfast, hike down to Chamelia River valley then ascend through beautiful terraced fields, and traditional Lithi village. Hike continue to Ghusa. Have lunch, explore typical culture and lifestyle of mountain locals. Village tour is itself very interesting to explore the classic culture. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 09: Ghusa to Khayekot (2030m), camp.

Have breakfast, hike through hill slope and traditional village along Chamelia River valley. While walking, you see beautiful river valley, waterfalls, wonderful landscape, settlements and typical lifestyle. Arrive the camp just above the confluence of Gola gad and Chamelia River, have lunch then explore the classic culture in Lwathi, the last village in the valley. Dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Hike to Rokab Gad confluence (2970m), camp.

After having breakfast, cross the Chamelia River, hike through forests, rivulets and rocky inclines along the narrow Chamelia River valley. You may see sheep and yak herding along the trail or in beautiful pastures. River flowing through huge boulders, hanging cliffs, waterfalls, animals herding, group of people walking up and down for collecting most precious rare Himalaya species of half mushroom and half worm yarshagomba in April May seem very interesting. Arrive river camp. Have lunch, relax and enjoy by the river confluence. Dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Trek to Pilkanda Khola (3890m), camp

Have breakfast, hike continue along the upper Chamelia valley through rivulets, Dhaulo Odar and inclines. Arrive Pilkanda Khola at the lower base of the Api Nampa base camp valley. Have lunch then explore and enjoy the glacial valley around the camp. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 12: Explore ultimate destination Api Base Camp, glacial lake(4100m) and valleys, camp.

After having breakfast, hike to Api Base Camp, the ultimate destination of the trek, explore and enjoy high country flora, beautiful hanging glaciers, glacial lake Kalidhunga in the eastern glacial valley, interesting bowl shape geomorphology and alpine meadows. Hike back to the camp. Have lunch. Relax in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 13: Trek back to Khayekot, camp.

Have breakfast, hike back to Khayekot on the same way. As per the preference of the guests, there will be pack lunch can be on the way and late lunch in the camp. Relax in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 14: Trek back to Makarigad, camp.

After breakfast, hike back to Makarigad, have lunch. Time for laundry in Makarigad in the afternoon. Today is the end of the trek, so we release local porters and donkeys today but we continue kitchen and camping crew for two more days. Dinner and overnight.

Day 15: Drive back to Khodpe, camp.

After breakfast, drive down to Gokuleshwar valley along Chamelia River valley then ascend to Patan, have lunch then drive continue to Khope. Today is the last night in camp. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 16: Drive back to Dhangadhi, hotel.

Have breakfast in camp, drive to Budar, have lunch then drive continue to terai town Dhangadhi. Release the kitchen and camping crew today. Dinner and overnight in hotel. 

Day 17: Explore Dangaura Tharu tribal culture, hotel.

After breakfast, drive to Dangaura Tharu village, visit Behedababa temple complex then observe classic culture programs of Dangaura Tharu tribe in the village. The attraction of the village are traditional houses of clay dung plastered artistic engraved walls, culture programs, fishing expedition, cooking typical tribal dishes, husking rice in traditional rice mill, grinding grains in traditional grinding mill, weaving bamboo/straw mats/baskets, animal husbandry etc.You can taste their hygienic typical dishes served in sal leaves plate. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 18: Explore Rana Tharu tribal culture in the morning, fly to Kathmandu, hotel

After breakfast, drive to Rana Tharu tribal village, explore their interesting culture similar to Dangaura Tharu but their outfits and ornaments are different. Return to hotel. Have lunch then drive to airport. Fly to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight. 

Day 19: Sightseeing in Kathmandu, relax and shopping, hotel.

Morning is dedicated to explore two of the most interesting UNESCO culture heritage sites- Lord Pashupatinath area where you see many devotees of Lord Shiv around the main temple, hundreds of lingums representing lord Shiv and goddess Parvati, cremations aong the holy Bagmati river, many temples, colorful Babas; the spiritual teacher and Hindu sage strong devotee of Lord Shiv, red monkeys and many more interesting things then visit Bouddhanath stupa complex. Have lunch. Then time for relax and shopping. Farewell snacks. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 20: Program over, fly back home.

Entire trip cost per person (USD):    $3,990 (including restricted area permit)

Trip cost includes:
All accommodation (twin sharing basis) & food; three meals a day -breakfast, lunch and dinner (except bar bill), insured crew (guide, porters, donkeys, dzopa, yaks and necessary kitchen crew for camping trek), all essential permits, all domestic transportation as per the itinerary, service charge and government taxes.

Trip cost does not include:
Personal expenses (like laundry, communication, alcohol, cold drinks and bottled water during trekking), gratuity to serving crew, emergency evacuation, international airfare, visa, your travel insurance and any kind of gifts and donation.

Payment system

  • 80% of total trip budget must be paid in advance (the amount should be appeared to our account just two weeks before the trips) for domestic airline tickets, permits, hotel bookings reconfirmation and essential preparations.
  • Balance can be paid before or during/after the trip.

Refund system
In case of trip cancellation in the last 10 days of group arrival, 50% of the deposited amount will be deducted. If the trip cancels 10 days before the group arrival, we settle the full amount in next trip.
